This includes visits in your home, each lasting 1-2hrs.
Your midwife will undertake the baby newborn physical examination check, arrange any screening tests, complete the newborn blood spot screening test and give you support with feeding. All highlighted bits link to baby screening page
She will also, at each visit, undertake a top to toe check of mum and baby to ensure all is well.
- Five days of care is typically 3-4 visits. In most cases this is on day 1, 2, 3 and 5 after birth. This costs £650. Your midwife is available between visits for advice if you need her.
- Two weeks of care is typically 5-6 visits. Typically these are on days 1, 2, 3, 5, 10, 14 after birth and this costs £925
- Four weeks is typically 7-8 visits. In most cases these will be on days 1, 2, 3, 5, 10, 14, 20, 28. The costs £1300
- Six weeks is typically 9-10 visits. In most cases these will be on days 1, 2, 3, 5, 10, 14, 20, 28, 35, 42. The costs £1600
The exact days that the midwife visits you can vary depending on when you get home from hospital, if there have been any complications, how feeding is going, your personal preference, special days like Christmas that you may not want a visit etc. In all cases, the midwife will discuss with you and agree what suits you best.
You can extend your postnatal care at any time.
If you book our platinum package and plan a hospital birth, instead of the birthing pool and Entonox, you can extend your postnatal care for an additional 2 visits – one in week 5 and one in week 6.
