A spcial journey with a special midwife

Sophie contacted Private Midwives to discuss and arrange antenatal care prior to the birth of her third child.

After having a traumatic pregnancy experience, Sophie was worried about the anxiety and stress that trying again for another baby would bring . Our midwife, Angie was at hand again to provide the support and guidance during the antenatal period of her pregnancy.

Sophie has kindly shared her birth story experience and some great pictures of the moment the latest edition to her family came into the world:

Sophie's Story:

  • “I can not express enough how pleased I am that I came across Angie's website and met her. After my baby boy died when I was 38 weeks pregnant I always knew I wanted to have another baby but I was not sure how I would cope, and had assumed I would not enjoy any moment of the pregnancy because of anxiety and stress. However Angie was able to provide me with reassurance and confidence, and to my surprise I enjoyed many moments of the pregnancy because of Angie.

She was always there to regularly listen to my baby's heartbeat, and was happy to stop by my house just to do that. She checked over all of my scan notes each time and went through anything I didn't understand. She made calls to the hospital to arrange and talk through appointments for me, and she was happy to talk to staff such as sonographers in advance to explain to them why I was so anxious.

She never once made me feel silly for any worries or questions I had (and I had a lot!) She was very patient in our appointments, we talked a lot at each appointment and she listened to my concerns and took the time to talk through how I was feeling each time. Our talks also helped me with the grief I felt for my son, and all of the different feelings being pregnant after loss brings.

I found I really bonded with my baby during our appointments and Angie would also include my two older sons. We made such lovely memories. She talked through with them what we were doing each time. They really enjoyed helping her do all of the checks on the baby but she also took the time to listen whilst they tried to teach her about football and show her their toys. They loved her visits and were sad when they came to an end (as was I!) She felt like family by the time my baby was born and I hope to stay in touch as she really made what I thought would be a very difficult period feel very special indeed.

We recently saw Angie after she got back from her trip to Malawi and once again it was lovely to see her. I have included a photo of that visit as well as photos from our appointments.
