Áine Hennessey

NMBI: 130644

My name is Áine and I have been a midwife since 2013. I trained in Trinity College Dublin and I have worked in all areas of midwifery, from antenatal and postnatal, labour wards, theatre and finally landing into home births. I spent time working in the UK and UAE as well as here in Ireland. I have worked as a home birth midwife since 2018. I currently facilitate home births in counties Kildare, West Wicklow, Carlow, Kilkenny, West Dublin and parts of Meath. I also teach hypnobirthing, baby massage and I became a fully qualified reflexologist in 2021.

My passion lies in physiological birth, empowering women and families to take control of their own pregnancy and birth experience, while offering unwavering support to the best of my abilities. Birth is the most precious time in a woman’s life, and by helping them prepare towards a positive birth experience, while facilitating the transition into motherhood and parenthood, is the most fulfilling and honouring thing to be a part of. I believe every birth has the capacity to be a positive experience, and I cannot wait to help you on your journey to meeting your baby and welcoming them into your family.

Private Midwife Aleanbh Cox

Midwife - Ireland

Aleanbh Cox

NMBI: 125532

Aleanbh Cox is a mother to two beautiful daughters and a registered midwife in Ireland. She trained in Trinity College and The Coombe Women’s and Infants University Hospital Dublin and graduated in 2011. She continued to work in the Coombe after graduation until early 2019.

Since late 2014, she has offered private Hypnobirthing classes to couples in order to prepare them for the birth of their baby. In 2018, she had the opportunity to use everything that she had been teaching in Hypnobirthing classes herself in the birth of her second daughter. And what an amazing experience that was!

Most recently, she completed a Spinning BabiesParent Educator training in Holland, an Antenatal Yoga training in Dublin and a baby massage course.

She is also a volunteer for AIMS Ireland and provides confidential support to women. She does this by reviewing individual women’s case notes and by providing feedback and information to allow women to gain a better understanding of their birth story. Sometimes women have precise questions about why a certain procedure was done or sometimes a review of the case notes helps to ‘fill in the gaps’.

She has joined Private Midwives Ireland in the Dublin area so that she can offer her fellow colleagues and the women they care for additional support during labour and birth of baby.

Midwife & Tongue Tie Practitioner - Ireland

Liz Halliday

NMBI: 122213

I am an experienced midwife and tongue-tie practitioner, passionate about supporting families through the early days of infant care—particularly around feeding. With a strong focus on providing kind, respectful, and individualised support, I help families navigate feeding challenges in a way that honours their choices and values.

Currently, I run clinics and offer home visits to assess and treat tongue-tie in newborns. I take time with every family to ensure they feel informed, supported, and confident in their feeding journey—whether breast, bottle, or combination feeding. My approach is gentle, thorough, and centred on each family’s unique needs.

My midwifery career began in 2006, when I enrolled at Trinity College Dublin as a mature student after having my own children. After working in Ireland’s maternity services, a chance opportunity led me to Private Midwives, where I spent over a decade providing antenatal and postnatal care, supporting home births, and offering in-hospital care to families across the east coast and midlands of Ireland. While I’ve since stepped back from attending births, I continue to support families in the antenatal and postnatal period with the same dedication and compassion.

I am trained in NIPE (Newborn and Infant Physical Examination), offering comprehensive day 2 baby checks, and am fully qualified in Birth Trauma Resolution therapy—a field I’ve been practising in for over four years. This work has deepened my understanding of the emotional and psychological aspects of perinatal care, and I bring this awareness into every part of my practice.

I have a deep passion for informed choice and believe that every family deserves care that is not only clinically sound, but also kind, affirming, and inclusive.

I speak passable French, have lived in many parts of the UK and Ireland, and have travelled widely—experiences that have shaped my interest in cultural sensitivity and diversity. I’m a proud LGBTQ+ ally and have had the privilege of working with many same-sex and gender non-conforming families.

It has been an honour to support hundreds of families over the years—each one has shaped who I am as a midwife and as a person. I look forward to continuing this work, growing in connection, and providing care that supports families to thrive.

Private Midwife - Ireland

Rachel O’Brien

NMBI: 144312/strong>

Hello, my name is Rachel, I’m a Registered Midwife and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant as well as the proud mum of two beautiful babies. I am dedicated to protecting and promoting physiological birth and breastfeeding. My passion for supporting women and their families on their unique journeys through pregnancy, birth and postpartum began as a Midwife but was truly ignited after my own personal experiences in maternity care and experiencing two very contrasting births, one in hospital and one at home. My homebirth had a profound effect on me and I only wish all birthing women could have the opportunity to experience birth in an empowering and enriching way. No two women or babies are the same which is why I believe it is essential to provide individualised care tailored to the needs and desires of each family. I have an additional interest in Aromatherapy and Hypnosis in pregnancy and birth and received training in these at Expectancy UK in 2019-2021.

Private Midwife Sandra Healy

Sandra Healy

NMBI: 121154

Hi. I am Sandra and I have worked as a midwife since 2010 and transitioned to homebirth in 2016. I deeply care about how women experience birth and believe choice of birthplace matters. I have 4 grown up children and had the privilege of having my last child at home which inspired me to become a midwife because the experience so empowered me.

I love to teach, and I provide Hypnobrthing classes to families in the Midwest. I also occasionally teach midwifery students and pass on the knowledge that I have gained from some wonderful midwife mentors on my midwifery journey.

I joined Private Midwives Ireland in early 2024 because I want to ensure that the women of Ireland have access to safe, informed and empowered birth experiences with midwives they know and trust.

Midwife - Ireland

Sarah McCann

NMBI: 125504

Hi, I’m Sarah. I trained in the Rotunda and Trinity College Dublin and I qualified in 2011. I am a mum to 4 grown-ups and a hypnobirthing and antenatal education teacher since 2006. I am passionate about women being able to access evidence-based care with a health professional they are familiar with, in the place of their choice. Women deserve to know all their options so they can make an informed decision. I am happy to support women and their families in Dublin and surrounding counties.

I also do the ‘Closing of the Bones’ as I think we need to support our mums postnatally much better than how we traditionally support them in Ireland.
