After having a traumatic first birth in the NHS during the first covid lockdown, I knew I needed my second to be different. I contacted and spoke to several midwives but as soon as I spoke to Sharon I knew we had to have her as our midwife. We instantly felt comfortable and in control. We had care from 30 weeks and it was so nice having the care in our own home and having the continuity of the same person. Sharon really took the time to get to know us and our values and the long appointments were such a breath of fresh air after the rushed, informal antenatal care we’d had previously in the NHS.
I spontaneously went into labour at 40+1 and felt confident and calm enough to labour peacefully at home. As things ramped up I phoned Sharon who headed over. My contractions were irregular but Sharon really listened to my feelings when I said I thought things were ramping up similar to last time; which was lucky as baby Autumn was born very soon after Sharon arrived. I didn’t even have time to make it to the birth pool!
The whole birth was calm, and so magical. Sharon just quietly allowed me to get on with my labour and gave me the confidence to have the amazing homebirth I’d hoped for. Her knowledge was second to none and we instantly trusted her from the start. We had a week of postnatal care which gave us the best start to our breastfeeding journey and we were able to resolve Autumn’s tongue tie at the right time. I also felt reassured being properly checked after the birth and consequently had an easy recovery, so much different to the issues that were missed repeatedly after my first birth.
After the trauma of our first birth we are so grateful we decided on Private Midwives and can’t thank Sharon enough for helping us have the most incredible, magical birth this time. We would recommend it to anyone!
