Call us!

by Jo Watson / Sunday, 13 July 2014 / Published in Home Birth, Labour, Labour & Birth, Working with UKBC

At times you will have a pregnancy journey that is veering away from the straight forward route and when this happens you can feel that you have very little choice but to go along with the medical interventions even though they were not part of your birth plan. This can lead to feelings of powerlessness and a perception that you are not being heard!

Wouldn’t the whole experience be enhanced if you were given several options to choose from and a midwife who is on your side? A midwife who will be with you throughout the whole birth process advocating for you and working hard to ensure you have the best birth possible. I am that midwife!

In a nutshell working as I do with Private Midwives I am able to give you individualized and personal choice. To help you understand what that means in reality here are 2 birth stories of many hundreds of women who have sought an alternative to the care they were being offered by the NHS.

The first is the story of a woman who had the belief in her body when those around her faltered and this had led to her having 2 caesarean births. She met me when she was expecting her third baby and the relationship between us built up during her pregnancy and with this bond came trust .She wanted to have a home birth and was being denied this option by her local Maternity Unit due to her high risk status. When she knew that she was being taken seriously and we discussed the pros and cons of her choice she was freed from fear that she would not be supported and was able to begin preparation for her home birth. This is indeed how she gave birth at home  in water and maintained continuous skin to skin for hours something her previous two children had been denied!

The second story is of a woman who after a lot of soul searching agreed to have an induction of labour but with my support want to keep intervention to a minimum. This entailed me going to the Hospital with her to help her settle into the ante natal ward, remaining in contact with her at home to be recalled when labour started. She was on the Consultant unit but we negotiated the room with a pool, the use of telemetry and time lots of time to get into labour without IV Syntocinon. Massage birth ball going for walks and relaxation tapes. Coupled with dim lighting her own midwife’s constant support and rebozo techniques enabled her to enter the birth pool where in deed she gave birth as she wanted naturally in the water.

In both instances the women had found a midwife who they felt would support their choice and give them the belief and strength they needed to give birth.

If this resonates with your situation right now, or indeed if you just want to find out more why not start the journey towards fulfilling your dream by arranging a free consultation with Private Midwives.
