A great poem from our very own Melanie Ambrose:
They cuddle and hold the baby, but who does that for you?
They coo and smile and gaze at her, but they’re ignoring you!
The baby’s fed, the baby’s washed, the baby’s needs are met.
You’re hungry, tired and tearful and you haven’t showered yet!
You want someone to hold you, someone you love and trust.
You need someone to help you, be there while you adjust.
Your Midwife’s on her way or responding to your call.
Your Midwife’s there beside you, to catch you if you fall.
She tells you that you’re doing well, she understands your fears.
She holds your hand and guides you, she gently dries your tears.
You are now a Mother to this helpless little thing,
You’re overjoyed but overwhelmed, with all the love he brings.
So let them bring the flowers and the gifts and try to smile!
Let them fuss the baby and hold her for a while.
You have a friend with expertise, she knows just what to do.
She understands the highs and lows…your Midwife’s there for YOU! ?
