World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that for the best outcomes for women and babies only 5%-10% of births should be by caesarean section, if the rate of caesarean section is above 15% the WHO says that we start to do more harm than good for women and babies. (Althabe and Belizan 2006).
When you are expecting a baby you certainly do not want the way you are cared for to do you more harm than good, but the truth is that globally the rates of birth by caesarean are climbing.
US – Caesarean section rate is at 32.8% in 2011 (Hamilton et al. 2012)
UK – Caesarean section rate is 25.5% in 2012 (www.hsscic.gov.uk)
Brazil – Caesarean section rate is 50%.
China – Caesarean rate is 46% (WHO 2008)
These rates are doing more harm than good to women and their babies.
The truth behind these statistics is a low priority is being placed on enhancing women’s own abilities to give birth!
The great news is that here at Private Midwives we put you right at the centre and top of our priorities!
Don’t be part of the “Failure to progress in labour” and C-Section outcome. If you are given care that helps support the normal process of birth such as;
- Continuous support from a Midwife
- Doula support for birth
- Active birth approach
- Natal hypnotherapy
- Undisturbed birth with medical intervention only when necessary
- Waiting for spontaneous onset of labour and being patient in labour.
Then more than likely you are going to give birth normally to your baby.
Here at Private Midwives we
Trust In Birth!
At Private Midwives we are able to inform you about how your amazing body is designed for birth and let you have the evidence supporting a physiological approach to birth, whilst providing continuity from a Midwife that you know and trust. It is with this knowledge we will help you work towards real evidence-based care for you and your baby!
