What is my philosophy as a Private Midwife? I acknowledge birth as a rite of passage where not only a baby is born but also a Mother. I also recognise each of my clients as a whole person, not just a collection of health data, bringing with her many levels of previous life experiences that will impact her birth – physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. This holistic approach to birth includes a respect for what some call the “golden hour” this is the period when the new baby meets its mother on the outside of the womb for the first time, softening the moment of separation. It is my aim to support women to give birth in an intimate and loving way by being quiet and respectful of her birthing needs.
I believe that birth is powerful, and the power resides in the mother who is encouraged to follow her instincts, to move in ways that ease the pain and to be cherished by her partner. I ensure that my client is the centre of all the decisions, that she is my primary focus throughout. It is my aim during the ante natal period to work closely with my clients to eliminate their fears. It means grappling with some of the psychological aspects of the fears – fear of the unknown, fear of the power and fear of the pain. I help women to trust their bodies to understand the hormones and to allow them to do what needs to be done. It’s so much easier to trust our bodies to birth powerfully if we know the midwife who will be with us when we give birth.
At Private Midwives we want you to feel that you have choices and that we midwives are here to protect your choices. We provide you with a midwife that you get to know and trust who’s going to attend your birth with joy often getting out of bed in the middle of the night to come to you. We will hold your hand, or sit quietly offering words of encouragement to you and your partner providing you with the physical and emotional support you need.
In short, our aim is to make sure that you receive the safest, highest quality care; provided by the right person, at the right time, in the right place. We see our Midwives as working in partnership with you to achieve a positive birth experience.
