As your bump pushes up against your lungs and you have extra weight to carry around, you may feel breathless.
To celebrate International Day of the Midwife, UK Birth Centres have teamed up with The Healthy Spirit in Didsbury to provide you with a very exciting opportunity.
As I reflect on the recent births I have attended, I am struck by the powerful belief the Mothers had that they could give birth and in each case they did without any intervention and it was a privilege for me to witness this. It was no coincidence though that these births went well let me explain!
Water birth enables women to give birth in the way their bodies were designed.
“We were not designed to give birth under water!” I can hear you say!
Change is the one constant in this universe and as signs of autumn are all around us we see evidence of this. As a midwife supporting a small caseload of pregnant women I am privileged to support them during a period of profound change in their lives.
Each of us is different; which is so special as it makes us individuals. It is therefore a strange idea that all our baby’s will choose the exact 40 week gestation to enter the world. For reference, 280 days = 40 weeks = 9 months 6 days. It is a long time but hey you are growing a complex human baby!
We at UK Birth Centres are passionate about breast feeding and hate to hear stories about women struggling to have their baby gain weight when breast feeding, this can be a real worry for all concerned and even lead to the Mum switching to formulae feeding and ceasing to breast feed altogether. Here is some information that may be worth considering if you are in this position.
Every woman all over the world is equipped with all that is needed to provide warmth, love, comfort and nutrition to her new baby. Where possible It is important that the first hour of your baby’s life is uninterrupted or not disturbed. In this way the built in instincts are ignited and nature starts to provide the baby with his/her first feed …Colostrum.
Here at UK Birth Centres we think you deserve an individual approach for your birth support. We believe whole heartedly that you deserve to have the continued support of a midwife, so that you get to know her and she in turn learns about your hopes and fears and helps you to feel relaxed and cared for throughout your pregnancy and birth, and of course into those special early days with your newborn.
Are you expecting an imminent arrival? You may be experiencing all of the typical ‘false alarm’ twinges and cramps that mums-to-be normally have at this point in your pregnancy. So how do you know that labour has started? Each woman is different, but normally one of the following will occur:
